Our Journey
1980
In the 1980s, while still in Africa, Bhanu ben (a respectful way of addressing her) learned how to cook.
1990
In the 1990s, her family migrated to Canada, where she had regular jobs but always pursued her passion for cooking, especially making rotis and other dishes. Later, they moved to Delaware, facing financial challenges and living paycheck to paycheck. However, their side business of selling rotis and namkeen (savory snacks) always sustained them.
Eventually, they settled in Florida and, with the help of friends, opened a convenience store. Despite working hard, they still felt a strong connection to cooking.
Mid-1990
In the mid-1990s, during parties and weddings in America, people used to do potluck and bring homemade dishes to the event. Bhanu ben was always proactive and brought 2-3 dishes, which became a hit among everyone. This led to her receiving small orders for her delicious food, gradually evolving into a full-fledged catering business from her home.
1999
In 1999, Bhanu Ben faced a challenge when established local businesses complained about her unlicensed home-based catering operation. However, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as it prompted her to establish a legitimate restaurant called "Khasiyat." From there, her business thrived, and there was no looking back.
Over the years
Over the years, "Khasiyat" has grown exponentially. They now cater to approximately 150 weddings annually and have also expanded their services to include religious events, social events, etc. In total, they have successfully catered to more than 5,000 events, including one with a massive attendance of up to 10,000 people.
Moreover, "Khasiyat" has become the go-to choice for various organizations organizing festival dinners such as Holi and Diwali. Additionally, they cater to group tours of Indians traveling to the USA. Their dedication to cooking and commitment to quality have made "Khasiyat" a well-respected and popular name in the catering business.
